, an original, antique, ultra rare, c. 1900s, Marshall Field & Co., Chicago shipping crate panel. They operated as Marshall Field & Co. from 1881 - 1982, when the name changed to Marshall Field's. The sturdy, very likely handmade wooden crate panel contains printing, some code, some legible, and some not. Starting at the top, there is an "A" inside a diamond, with "D Y" followed by "42340." Underneath, "Marshall Field & Co. Chicago, ILL." Just under that, it looks like "New England Rail & Lake" (or Mail & Lake) "Despatch." Under this, it gets difficult, but I see "York &"  then after some space "Railroad." There is more writing toward the bottom, very hard to decipher, but it looks like 64 x 64, possibly "America" and parts of  words like "LICORS" and "BINTING." I have been unable to find anything remotely similar to this wood crate panel, which measures about 32" x 25" x 1.5" and weighs just over 10 lbs. without packaging. Has a wire on back, so it's ready for display! A rare piece of Marshall Field & Co., Chicago, and shopping history! It's so unique, I don't know where to price it - so MAKE AN OFFER!!!
