Toys R Us Geoffrey Keychain - Not Sold to the Public
With nearly 25 years working for the big giraffe, am still coming across promotional items that had limited distribution, but were never offered for sale to the public. Here's another one:
This find is a "Geoffrey" (Toys R Us) keychain, which was a item only made available to Toys "R" Us employees (if my memory serves me correctly, this was the original version of the 2 year anniversary gift/incentive. It is made from some type of pewter-colored metal with detachable metal hoop to load keys onto - as pictured. This item originally came in a plastic display case, which has been since lost to time. This item is 'as new" and has not been used, but will have typical marking from being in storage for over 30 + (?) years.
Going to ballpark the date of this promotional item from late 1980's to mid 1990's, based on the second generation raised Geoffrey on one side and a slightly later reverse "R" on the other. While the Geoffrey figure was current from the late  70's/early 80's, the stylized "R" appears (to me) more mid 1980's and predates the later "Star R" logo of mid 2000's on.
