Description
Large Vintage Native American Indian Mandella Dream Catcher & Matching Decorative Pipe. This is a vintage set that was owned by my Aunt & has been packed away for many years. These are not new, but the dream catcher is in good pre-owned condition, & the pipe is in excellent pre-owned condition. Being as they are pre-owned, some slight signs of normal "wear & tear" from age and display, should be expected.
DREAM CATCHER:
This is a large Mandela Dream Catcher, which has an approx. hoop diameter of 15 inches. From the top of the hoop frame down, the length is approx. 35 inches, or 39 inches in total when hanging (includes the leather strap hanger).
This dream catcher is an original, handmade Indian Mandela. It is made with natural sheeps wool, rabbit fur, leather, fleece, and feathers of various birds.
The fur center is dark grey mounted on lighter leather backing w white leather straps securing it to the wrapped brown hoop, and topped with various brown feathers in which the hanger piece is mounted from. Fur also features metal ornates with white and pink beaded leather straps with light brown feathered tips & pink leather straps w silver beads. Over the hoop are 2 braided fleece/ wool sections that each feature a wooden bead & a large white feather that looks to be dyed black on the tips. There are then 11 separate hanging sections fleece/ wool, each lined with its own light brown feather at the top, as well as each having a wooden bead with more light brown feathering on the ends.
PIPE:
I am not sure if this is considered a peace pipe or if it's for some other type of celebratory event instead. I don't know much about it, couldn't even tell ya for sure what it's made out of unfortunately! But I can send some more detailed pictures upon request.
The pipe is carved out of a white, almost bone colored material. It looks to me like it resembles some sort of clay on the pipe bowl end down to the mouth piece. The mouth piece is the same color & might be made of the same material, however has some sort of clear glaze coating on it.
The pipe is beautifully hand crafted and though greatly designed, you can see the imperfections of being hand carved. The body of the pipe has 2 sections of fur on it (matching the center fur in the dream catcher), cross wrapped between them are thin light colored, leather straps that tie together over each piece of fur, then hangs down on each end, decorated with pink & white beads (also matching the dream catchers beads) tipped with matching light brown feathers at the ends.
The bowl of the pipe has a beautiful yet simple pink, white, and black, hand painted, kinda be tribal Indian floral design. Then small pink dots painted on the top of the body up to the first section of fur.
FLAWS/ DAMAGES:
DREAM CATCHER:
There are a few slight flaws or be what may be considered as damage, although most of it is hardly noticeable without having it pointed out. This includes some loose strands of fleece toward the bottom, as well as a missing metal piece on center fur, which you can only tell is missing from the empty holes on the backside of the fur/ leather. Also has 1 broken leather strap that secures center fur/ leather to the hoop frame. Strap is still there, just broke or untied. Again, hardly noticeable.
PIPE:
I haven't found too many other pipes like this one for me to actually compare it to so I could be missing something. But as far as I can tell, this piece is without any actual damage to it. There are noticeable lines in the mouth piece, however, I do not consider these to be cracks but just the natural process of what happens when a glaze is used. So as far as I can tell the pipe is without flaws or damage.
